Jeff Shewfelt has 32 years’ experience in the financial services industry and 27 years working at a credit union. He has a Bachelor of Commerce and is a Fellow of the Credit Union Institute of Canada.
In 1991, Jeff joined Gulf and Fraser Fishermen’s Credit Union as a branch manager and worked his way up to Co-Chief Executive Officer in 2011. Throughout his time at G&F Financial Group, Jeff is proud to have been a part of the credit union growth that has now surpassed $2 billion in assets. He has held a variety of responsibilities with G&F—from retail and commercial lending to strategy and marketing. For the past eight years, Jeff has continued to lead the credit union as a Co-CEO by focusing on member engagement, innovation and collaboration.
"Financial services are on the cusp of a significant revolution.
In years past, credit unions were established because members couldn’t get loans or financial services from traditional banks. Now, fewer consumers are excluded, but members belong to credit unions because the values match their own and they expect world class solutions and applications that will make their financial lives easier.
As co-CEO, it is a great challenge to ensure that we have a great team of knowledgeable staff providing exceptional personal service, that our products and services are meeting the needs of our members and that we are making the appropriate investments in technology to serve members when, where and how they want to be served."
Jeff firmly believes in the collaborative and community values held by G&F. He has demonstrated his commitment to promoting collaboration within our credit union industry through his service as Chair of The Back Office Collaborative and the National Credit Card Program. The National Credit Card Program represents approximately 200 Canadian credit unions with the objective to help credit unions take greater ownership of their credit card programs and improve their members’ experience.
"I am chairing a group of credit unions who are collaborating to design and deliver a new digital financial services experience that will help members achieve their personal financial goals."
Jeff also invests considerable time in charitable initiatives. For the last five years, Jeff has been an active member of the Credit Union Foundation of British Columbia—a philanthropic organization that provides education awards to students in need of financial assistance. He has since taken a role on their Board of Trustees.
Jeff works closely with many community groups. Notably, he is Chair of The First Tee of Greater Vancouver—a foundation designed to help at-risk and underprivileged children learn life skills along with the fundamentals of golf. Jeff has been volunteering with The First Tee for 10 years and continues his support.
